Driedamshoek Trail
- Suitable for 4x2s with diff-lock
- Distance of total loop – 6,2 km return trip
- Driving time – about 1 to 1,5 hours
At the fork in the trail where the Eendamshoek and Driedamshoek trails split, take the right-hand trail (signposted). Spitskop is on the right-hand side. Nuwejaarsneskop will then be to the northeast. There are some interesting sandstone formations on the left. Before the trail leads into a narrow valley with several watercourse crossings, there is a cluster of an interesting fynbos species, Protea humiflora. After a few more watercourse crossings, one passes a point where veld flowers were collected for transportation back to base.
A short distance further after two more watercourse crossings, one reaches an old settlement consisting of the ruins of two stone homes and a threshing floor.
The pools of water in the watercourse are the reason that people could settle in this remote and isolated section of the property. Look out for klipspringers on the tops of the ridges all around. Experience the sense of historic mystery!
